GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 663464
No easy way to show the main Empathy window / contact list
Last modified: 2011-11-07 09:03:37 UTC
1. start a conversation window with someone 2. close the Empathy contact list 3. try to open that contact list again (no cheating with Alt+F2 !) I haven't found a way to do that (except using Alt+F2), since the gnome-shell window matching will only focus the conversation windows instead of spawning empathy's contact list. The contact list can be useful for those who prefer it over gnome-contacts: - less "stuff" in there with better grouping/filtering options, the notion of "favorites", the clear distinction between online/offline, etc. - it's the only way to access Empathy's preferences dialog, the accounts dialog, the blocklist, the favorite rooms, etc.
Hmm, I thought we had an open bug for that, but appears like I was wrong. Not sure how to fix this - the cause of the problem is that empathy was split into two "applications" (empathy == the roster and empathy-chat == the conversation view), which share a common .desktop file.
We do, that's bug #658043. I'm not sure of the right way to fix that either. I was thinking adding a "Show contact list" item in the Shell's launcher but we need jump list support first. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 658043 ***
