Description Jasper St. Pierre (not reading bugmail) 2011-10-04 19:57:06 UTC
Steps:

1. Press and hold <Super>
2. Open a GtkMenu.
3. While the GtkMenu is open, hit the hotcorner twice to open and close the overview.
4. Release the GtkMenu.
5. Release <Super>.

Expected:

<Super> works again.

Actual:

<Super> is stuck. After hitting <Super>, hitting the hot-corner will enter the overview and then immediately leave it.

I get this problem also and can repeat it with the sequence above and similar sequences involving gtkmenu apps. However, I also get it happen seemingly randomly. E.g, just pressing the super key quickly it will lock up within about 10 key presses. This is on ubuntu 11.10 with GS 3.2.1 (on a dual screen nvidia desktop if it matters). It is probably the most significant bug I see in GS. I restart GS to clear the fault.
Comment 2 Mark Blakeney 2012-05-04 08:07:52 UTC
I have done a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04, added the gnome3 team ppa, installed gnome-shell 3.4, and still see this repeatable annoying bug. I can lock it up in a few secs just by pressing my meta key a few times in quick succession. As the OP said in his description, a possibly significant note is that after locking up the meta key then the next hot-corner mouse activation causes the activities view to enter and quickly leave. Hot corner works normally from then on but meta key doesn't do anything until I reload gnome-shell.

Is there anything I can do to provide more info/logs to a developer?

I do not recall this bug happening on Ubuntu 12.10 with gnome-shell 3.6 over the last 6 months. Now I have freshly installed Ubuntu 13.04 using gnome-shell 3.8 (via gnome 3 ppa) and see this bug frequently again. I can do it on call easily just by pressing the super key quickly a few times, just as my previous comment for gnome-shell 3.4. When I first commented here in 2011 I was on older hardware with nvidia graphics, now I am on new fast hardware with intel HD4000 graphics so it seems a pretty generic bug.

I can confirm simply pressing super key quickly get it stuck. I have to use mouse to open activities to make it work again with 3.8.1, same with intel HD4000.

Confirmed. Press the Super key a few times until it is stuck. Then use the hot-corner, and the activities overview will open and close quickly.

Arch Linux x86_64, gnome-shell 3.8.1, Intel HD 3000.
Comment 6 raffomania 2013-06-10 17:53:29 UTC
Confirmed. Please fix this.

Arch Linux x86_64, gnome-shell 3.8.3, Intel HD 4000
Comment 7 Aaron Lu 2013-10-18 08:02:15 UTC
Same here with gnome-shell-3.8.4-2.fc19.x86_64.
Comment 8 Clément Guérin 2013-10-18 16:16:59 UTC
It's not the case anymore with GNOME 3.10.1 :)
Comment 9 Jakub Steiner 2013-10-18 17:00:43 UTC
Indeed. I can't reproduce on 3.10. Closing as fixed.
Comment 10 Aaron Lu 2013-10-20 04:45:14 UTC
Is gnome 3.8 still supported? Will the fix be back ported to v3.8.x?
Comment 11 Mark Blakeney 2013-10-21 22:49:52 UTC
Given I have been reporting/commenting this bug here for 2 years now(!), I guess I should add that I cleanly installed Ubuntu GNOME 13.10 + gnome3/gnome3-next ppas with gnome-shell 3.10.0.1-0ubuntu1~saucy0.1 and the bug is now gone.
