Description Pedro Villavicencio 2011-09-30 17:06:36 UTC
this report has been filed here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/862662

"Always reproducible.

Steps to reproduce:
 * open nautilus
 * double-click a jpg file or any other type

observed: the associated application starts, but the user does not know until its window eventually opens
expected: a busy cursor is displays until the application starts

This is a regression, though in previous versions, only gtk+ applications behave as expected, other (libreoffice, qt apps) don't "

Since my original bug report #671916 was closed as a duplicate of this one, I'd just like to point out that this bug has more severe consequences than just lack of busy cursor: it seems that it fools metacity and results in nautilus window being covered by an existing window on nautilus startup under certain circumstances (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity-2d/+bug/889044).

My original bug report (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=671916) includes analysis of metacity debug log.
