Description ds 2011-09-30 16:52:32 UTC
SERIOUSLY - arrow.scm sucks and should not be an addon! Put a damn arrow tool (plus a few basic chart shapes would be nice) into GIMP!

Personally, I'm running 2.6.11 and latest arrow.scm (from 2009). It used to work but now it seems broken. No errors, but no arrow. Very annoying.

There's no "arrow.scm" script distributed with gimp.
Comment 2 ds 2011-09-30 17:42:19 UTC
The arrow.scm (from the plugin registry... and the ONLY arrow tool I have found for GIMP) problem was a stupid mistake on my part.

The point of the "Bug" was feature request or enhancement.... GIMP has been around WAY TOO LONG for there not to be some basic shape support that does not rely on add-ons that may or may not be updated as GIMP evolves.

So what is your request in clear and friendly words?
"Provide basic shape support (e.g. for arrows)"?
Comment 4 ds 2011-10-03 14:04:08 UTC
My most sincere apology about my previous tone. I was having a problem getting the tool to work and was greatly annoyed at it being an addon.

Usage: Our basic usage is to take a photo of a product defect and add an arrow to show the defect, plus a text box for explanation.

The arrow.scm script (http://registry.gimp.org/node/20269) works nicely, but it is inconvenient as it is an addon. It (along with a few other basic flow charting shapes) would be much better if they appeared along with the basic brush, pencil and other default tools. Nearly all drawing programs have circle, rectangle, and maybe parallelogram shapes in the main tool box.

Desired feature: Click on the tip end of the arrow and drag back to the base of the arrow and release. The shape should then be an object (with a resizeable box) that I can stretch or shrink to change the size, location, and rotation of the object.

I think this would be a tremendous improvement with little effort needed.

Thanks.

The goal is to make it simple because most of the users for this tools have little on no photo editing experience and GIMP is really overkill. We are trying to standardize our machine configuration and images and GIMP provides all of the photo tools we need for use in other areas.
