Sudoku hints don't work, causes traceback

Trying to add a number to the top or bottom part of a square to add a hint won't work and spews out a traceback when run from the console. See the attached Fedora 16 or Ubuntu bugs if you need to see the traceback.

This crash doesn't happen now with Sudoku 3.2.1.
