GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 659739
Allow creating fake removable device volumes for testing
Last modified: 2011-09-21 16:28:37 UTC
gvfs-mount localtest:/// is cool, but it would be even better if it could be configured to imitate a removable device. This would allow writing functional tests that exercise removable device handling, improving on the current process of plugging a USB stick in and out many times. The best way I see to implement is make this configurable by some new environment variables. It would probably also be helpful if the URI specified a location in the FS to use as root, so I could mount localtest:///home/sam/my-test-data rather than exposing /.
You can already do this by implementing your own GVolumeMonitor thanks to the gio-volume-monitor extension point http://developer.gnome.org/gio/unstable/GVolumeMonitor.html#G-VOLUME-MONITOR-EXTENSION-POINT-NAME:CAPS For example, see how GVfs does this. Closing as FIXED in lieu of a WORKSFORME resolution.
