Description Xavier Claessens 2011-09-13 08:23:10 UTC
I would be nice if scrollback in IM chat could be infinite. So initially only the last X messages are loaded from logs but if user goes up with the scollbar, older logs are loaded. This is how N900 works at least and can be useful.

Same for empathy chat window: bug #658889

In my mind, the shell's chat notifications are for quick replies and for ongoing chats. They are a window into Empathy, not a replacement for it.

It might be better to only have this behaviour in Empathy. The chat windows there are better suited to viewing lots of history - there are bigger, and include extra functionality like find.

However, if we do restrict this functionality to Empathy, we should have a way to link to it - if you scroll up and reach the top of the available log, there could be a link to "View history in Empathy".
