Step to reproduce:

1. Try to read this content with Orca using Firefox 6: http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/announce/2011-August/002992.html

Expected result: It would work.

Actual result: It fails due to UnicodeEncodeError exceptions. A number of sanity checks seem to be in order.

This fix gets us speaking the correct line and not spitting up completely. Something additional seems to be required for braille. Thus I've opened bug 658134 for that issue.
