Description Iason Konstantinidis 2011-09-01 09:24:26 UTC
On Windows 7, with standard theme, Segoe UI fonts etc, the Customer report comes up blank. If exported, the html contains all data but in gnucash's report viewer it shows blank. Not even title or the table outlines.

I'm on Windows XP, with the classic theme. gnuCash 2.4.7

Reports were working when I first installed a few weeks ago, but I must have changed something on my system, and now they are completely blank (white). I've tried a few different built in reports, and they are always blank.

I can still export the report and show it in the browser without any problem.
Comment 3 Fredrik Persson 2011-09-25 18:08:59 UTC
I can confirm this bug. Win 7, Gnucash 2.4.7, standard theme. And the exported HTML looks fine.
Comment 4 Geert Janssens 2011-09-27 21:14:53 UTC
Just a wild guess: could the font colour used on the reports be set to white ?
Can you select (invisible) text on the empty report pages and try a copy and
paste to a text editor ?
Comment 5 Fredrik Persson 2011-09-28 05:54:32 UTC
Geert, that's a creative idea. Unfortunately, no, there is no white-on-white text. I tried selecting (invisible) text, but there's nothing highlighted and nothing pastes into notepad.

Also, I tried looking in to the stylesheets used for reports. Those clearly state that text color is (mostly) black-on-white.
Comment 6 Geert Janssens 2011-09-28 08:23:46 UTC
Well, it was worth a try.

My test box is Windows XP, with the classic theme. I tried both with GnuCash 2.4.7 and the latest development snapshot, but I don't have any issues with the reports. That's good for me, but makes it harder to debug this problem...

Is there something in the most recent gnucash.trace file ?
http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Windows#Error_messages.2C_Trace_file

Also, in the same directory as the trace file, you should find temporary files named gnc-report-<abcdef>.html for each report that GnuCash generates. Can you open these files properly with your webbrowser ?
Comment 7 Fredrik Persson 2011-09-28 10:31:12 UTC
Geert,

The trace file contains this:

* 12:25:05  WARN <qof.engine> [guid_init()] only got 1591 bytes.
The identifiers might not be very random.
* 12:25:15 WARN <Gtk> Could not find the icon 'gtk-fullscreen'. The 'hicolor' theme
was not found either, perhaps you need to install it.
You can get a copy from:
	http://icon-theme.freedesktop.org/releases

There are temporary gnc-report-<abcdef>.html files present, and when opened in a broswer, they appear fine and they are correct.

There is also a file called LWSDeboutOut.txt that seems to get written constantly. This is repeatedly written to that file:

CDeviceInfoMap::GetDeviceFriendlyName() - !pDeviceInfo - failed m_DeviceInfoMap.Lookup(lDeviceID=: 0

.\DeviceInfoMap.cpp

Line: 313

CDeviceInfoMap::GetPnPId() - failed  m_DeviceInfoMap.Lookup - device ID: : 0

.\DeviceInfoMap.cpp

Line: 406
Comment 8 Fredrik Persson 2011-09-28 10:31:55 UTC
LWSDebutOut.txt should of course be LWSDebugOut.txt
Comment 9 Geert Janssens 2011-09-28 12:07:02 UTC
LWSDebugOut.txt has nothing to do with GnuCash. It's a debug file from the Logitech Webcam Software.

The gnc-report-<abcdef>.html files are what should be displayed in GnuCash when you open a report. The fact that they work when opening them in a webbrowser suggest that the problem is limited to displaying the report, not generating it.

I have no idea why though. Nothing in GnuCash has changed recently in that area.

Could you perhaps try to temporarily disable your firewall and anti-virus software and try again ? This should be safe to do as GnuCash won't connect to the internet and has no viruses (or your anti-virus program would have picked them up before). I wonder if they are interfering.
Comment 10 Fredrik Persson 2011-09-28 17:23:15 UTC
I just tried disabling the windows firewall and my antivirus software. That had no effect whatsoever, the report was generated and the html file in the temp dir looked fine, but nothing displayed in gnucash.

I'm more than happy to run a build with more logging/debugging options enabled, if one such build (that can be installed and run while the original gnucash installation is still there) can be provided.

Reassign version to 2.4.x so that individual 2.4 versions can be retired.
