Description Denis Washington 2011-08-24 07:30:44 UTC
The Seahorse encryption key manager is currently called "Password and Encryption Keys", which was appropiate when it appeared under "Preferences" in GNOME 2.x, but seems odd now that it is listed in "Applications" instead. It should now have a name that sounds more like an application, such as "Encryption Key Manager" or simply "Key Manager".
Comment 1 Stef Walter 2011-08-26 18:20:03 UTC
How about "Password and Key Manager" ?
Comment 2 Denis Washington 2011-08-27 06:29:30 UTC
Sounds good, I just proposed the shorter "Key Manager" because I hope it to not be ellipsized in the Applications overview. ;)
Comment 3 Stef Walter 2011-08-27 06:41:08 UTC
I know what you mean ;)

But more people use seahorse to manage passwords than they do keys...

Will you be preparing a patch to make this change?
Comment 4 Denis Washington 2011-08-27 07:10:57 UTC
Sure! Should I use "Password and Key Manager" then? We could also ask the design team on #gnome-design first and ask what they think.
Comment 5 Stef Walter 2011-08-27 08:03:16 UTC
Sure go ahead and ask there, but don't let it hold you up too long.

FWIW, I suspect some of the designers are probably mulling plans as to how the password management in GNOME could be designed better. That'll be great when/if it comes about, but until then let's not let grand schemes get in the way of incremental improvements (like this one).
Comment 6 Hylke Bons 2011-08-27 12:40:04 UTC
I would suggest "Passwords and Keys". It's more friendly. "Manager" is an overused word and doesn't really add anything (and scares me :)
Comment 7 Stef Walter 2011-08-30 08:07:43 UTC
I agree. Sounds good. Denis, does this sound good to you. I don't think 'Passwords and Keys' will be "elippsized".

Rename to 'Passwords and Keys'

 * Shorter more to the point name.
Comment 9 Denis Washington 2011-08-30 08:22:40 UTC
I also like "Passwords and Keys".
