Description Nick Richards 2011-08-19 16:19:25 UTC
Locking the screen is a good thing. Blanking the screen is a good thing. Preventing the screen from locking for the first 5 or 10 seconds after blanking is also a good thing to prevent annoyance. "Lock screen after: Screen turns off" is not a good thing in either grammer, power or usability terms. "Lock screen after: 30 seconds" is even more egregious, being as it is easily falsifiable for a normal user.

We should do something better than this.

Let me add that this is bad in localisation terms as well. e.g. I can't find a sentence in Dutch that will satisfy both the "Screen Turns Off" and "30 minutes" items.

The current translation [0] is done out of context without looking at the widget, so it doesn't even make sense at all. Causing an even more hilarious situation: "Lock screen after: Turn the screen off"

Any ideas how to solve this?

Should we just make it "30 seconds" to avoid annoyance, and remove the setting from the UI?

The "screen turns off" option is now gone (as is the brightness & lock panel).
