Description CedricMC 2011-07-11 23:45:40 UTC
When setting the timezone through the gui (gsd-datetime-mechanism) for any Canary Islands's city, the wrong timezone is selectioned (GMT-1). The Canary Islands' timezone (GMT+0, Atlantic/Canary) should be always 1 hour less than Madrid's timezone (GMT+1, Europe/Madrid).

Moreover, the gui's pointer wrongly shows any city of the Canary Islands at West Africa, when they are obviously not.

Check the difference using the gui to set the timezone to "San Cristóbal de La Laguna" and the command line "dpkg-reconfigure tzdata" to set the timezone to "Atlantic/Canary" (then go to the gui).

gsd-datetime-mechanism is a daemon. It just does what it's told. Which part of the desktop are you using to switch the time?

Looks like there's a bug in the gnome-panel "international clock".

Which distribution did you use to switch the time?

(For the record, this works as expected in GNOME 3.0)

-Timezone is set by clicking on the panel clock > Date and hour settings > Unlock > Location (write down "San Cristóbal de La Laguna", do not use the pointer).
-Distribution: Ubuntu 11.04

(For the record, I'm thinking to switch to ArchLinux+Gnome3.0)

CedricMC can you check in 3.0?
Comment 4 CedricMC 2011-08-29 06:30:14 UTC
I'll try when G3 installed.

I should receive my new computer this or next week. I will check this then, since I can't install Gnome3.2 right now.

Sorry for this huge delay.

Hi there,

again, sorry for the delay. I still don't have my computer, but managed to install Gnome 3 on another host.

The bug I filled out for Gnome 2.32 does not apply to Gnome 3.2. It seems that Gnome 3.2 lacks of the "city search" + "city coordinate" features that where available in Gnome 2.32. I don't know if I should install another addon in order to set my location like in Gnome 2.32. If I should do so to check this properly, please tell me.

So far, the gui selector works fine (as it was doing int Gnome 2.32).

I hope Life treats you well. Cordially,

Cédric.

PS: I changed the status, but I don't know if it is the proper one.

Hi there,

was this enough or should I give you more feedback? Let me know.

¡Felices Fiestas!
Comment 10 Bastien Nocera 2012-01-06 10:18:57 UTC
I'll close this, as the GNOME panel code is gone, and there isn't enough information to reproduce the problem in GNOME 3. Do not hesitate to file new bugs if there are problems with the date & time in GNOME 3.
