GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 653846
Activities view cut windows in small screens.
Last modified: 2011-08-22 20:07:14 UTC
Created attachment 191137 [details] Window is not entirely shown. If you are using gnome3 in a netbook (1024x600 screen resolution), the activities view, will cut part of the windows that should be entirely shown. See screenshot.
This is likely a duplicate of bug 651082 - can you if the patch attached there fixes the issue?
Kinda the same bug, but i don't think it's a duplicate. While bug 651082 reports problems displaying the applications page, mine shows a bug in the windows page. So, i don't think the patch would solve this. BTW i don't know where to paste the patch inside the original file. PS: Bug 651082 is present in my small-screen netbook as well.
I just noticed that if i add more than 6 applications to the favorites bar, the apps in the bottom are not shown. Should i file another bug report for this?

So, i don't think the patch would solve this. I think it is the same bug - all of windows, applications and search page share the same parent container, so if the latter ends up too large because the category list in the application page pushes the bottom border down, the windows and search pages are equally affected. So trying out the patch would be valuable. > BTW i don't know where to paste the patch inside the original file. Are you using distro packages or did you build from source?
I'm using distro packages (Arch Linux actually). Anyway the file is in /usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/appDisplay.js but i don't know in which part of the file i should paste the patch.

No, same issue - the apps are not hidden, but off-screen. Maybe an easier test would be to use alacarte (the Gnome menu editor) to hide categories, until all categories fit into the application page. If the problem goes away, then it's a dupe.

(In reply to comment #7) > So, you're saying that the overall contender expands until matching the size of > the categories list? Yes. It should be set to a fixed size depending on the screen size, but that fails if the content is larger than the calculated size.

If the problem > goes away, then it's a dupe. Ok. Then it does is a duplicate. I've tried alacarte, but its settings don't seem to affect the categories. One more thing. How can i apply the patch of bug 651082? Is there a command that facilitates that?
(In reply to comment #9) > One more thing. How can i apply the patch of bug 651082? Is there a command > that facilitates that? Yes, we have some instructions on the wiki[0]. Note that this information is targets developers, so it assumes a working copy of the source code (i.e. not the files installed by the distribution's package manager). It should be possible to apply the patches to the installed files anyway using patch[1], but I wouldn't recommend that unless you know exactly what you are doing (for instance the shell might end up not starting anymore if something goes wrong).
