Description ali 2011-06-12 17:46:29 UTC
The compiled packages of Evince download with just 4-6kb/s (on a gigabit university network). My recommendation is to place the files on sourceforge or at least ibiblio.
Comment 1 Carlos Garcia Campos 2011-06-13 10:38:19 UTC
Evince uses the gnome ftp servers.
Comment 2 Olav Vitters 2011-06-13 11:07:18 UTC
From the sysadmin:

<maswan> Anyway, looked at the ticket now, obviously his university is doing something weird, because we're faster than that. We'd need a destination IP and exact URL (in case a file is stuck somehow), but you could also point out to the submitter that ftp.gnome.org is hosted on the same distribution cluster as for instance cdimage.debian.org, and we don't have any performance complaints there

I am now at at home. When I attempt to download the windows msi file from here http://www.miniwiki.org/wiki/index.php?wiki=_content.live.gnome.org%2FEvince%2FDownloads

it downloads with the same speed 4-6kb/s (on a 10mbps network).
Comment 4 ali 2011-06-13 15:10:21 UTC
What is interesting is if I go directly to the site http://live.gnome.org/Evince/Downloads and download the same file from there it downloads with my normal download speed. Looks like the problem is caused by miniwiki.
Comment 5 ali 2011-06-13 15:19:00 UTC
The same is true for the source files. When downloaded from within miniwiki, they download with 4-6kb/s. When downloaded directly from gnome, there is no problem with the download speed.

Typing "evince" gives the first result as http://www.miniwiki.org/wiki/index.php?wiki=_content.projects.gnome.org%2Fevince%2F and only the FOURTH result as http://projects.gnome.org/evince/ . Does anyone have the necessary access to remove the miniwiki stuff. Then it won't (probably) show in google as the first result (after a few months since removed).
Comment 6 ali 2011-06-13 15:21:26 UTC
TYPO: Second paragraph above should have begun with:

"Typing "evince" in Google..."
Comment 7 Olav Vitters 2011-06-13 15:54:24 UTC
wtf?

miniwiki.org is copying our content as-is!
Comment 8 Olav Vitters 2011-06-13 16:16:26 UTC
I've banned 202.67.226.236 from projects.gnome.org and live.gnome.org and a few other sites.
