Description Christian Smith 2011-04-19 18:31:19 UTC
When renaming a file or folder and you click off (into the folder, or whatever) your changes are removed in favor of the old filename. To save the new folder/filename you have to hit the enter key.
Comment 1 André Klapper 2011-04-21 11:38:48 UTC
It's always been like that. Why do you consider it a bug?
Comment 2 Cosimo Cecchi 2011-04-21 13:24:06 UTC
Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find.

*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 309162 ***
Comment 3 Christian Smith 2011-04-21 13:36:29 UTC
I am sorry, but this is not a duplicate of 309162. 309162 is about dragging before clicking off the object (and supposedly only on the desktop), but the new name does end up getting set. My bug is if you don't press enter, only left-click off the rename dialog (white space, another file, etc) in such as way as to take focus from the rename dialog, it will revert back to the original name, and does not change until you try again.

Expected behavior is that left-clicking off(unfocusing) the rename entry should save the new filename.

Just checked it on Archlinux, w/ nautilus 2.32.2.1 and it performs like expected. If you left-click into white space, the new name you put into the entry is saved as the new name of the file. Nautilus 3.0 does not do this, it reverts to original filename if you do not explicitly hit "enter".

Sorry, you're right.
Anyway, I tried to reproduce the bug here, and it seems to work as expected in Icon View, but not in List View.
Can you confirm that?
Comment 5 Christian Smith 2011-04-21 13:54:47 UTC
yes, it works as expected in icon view and compact view, but not in list view.

Tested on the same archlinux box (Nautilus 2.32.2.1) and it works as expected in all views.
Comment 6 Cosimo Cecchi 2011-04-21 13:59:05 UTC
Ok, thanks for the followup.

Nautilus 3.6.0 (from Gnome ppa on Ubuntu 12.10)

Changing name and clicking on somewhere else in the files area on in the list view and icon view works fine (compact view is gone).

But now when in list view, you change the file name and click on either locations panel to load eg recent files or desktop, or click on header bar to change order of files, then the filename is not changed. Definitely an inconsistency.

Is this still an issue with the redesign in 3.18?
