GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 647707
i-bus does not work in shell search field
Last modified: 2012-09-18 09:27:10 UTC
hi, i just noticed that i cant activate my ibus in the gnome-shell application search mode, which is a pitty as i added a search provider for a japanese dictionary, also i have some japanese app naming. my hotkey for for i-bus activation is CTRL + ^, i also tried alt , release, alt right. Manual activation by mouse wont work as clicking the status icon area automatically quits the shell overlay. my input method is Mozc but as i cant activate it i dont thing its Mozc fault. Archlinux testing repos GNOME Shell 3.0.0.2
I think the root of this problem is not activation of IBus. On my machine, IM (IBus, uim) can be activated on the search box. However, I cannot input any characters when an IM is activated. gnome-shell version: 3.2.0 IBus version: 1.4.0 uim version: 1.7.1 OS: openSUSE 12.1 Beta1 This bug is similar to the bug 621659. I doubt it has been really resolved because I could not find any code described in the patch in the gtk3 source.
Still broken in 3.4. This is a not a minor issue; Gnome Shell borders on unusable if you set your locale to Japanese.
ibus and gnome-shell are going to be tightly integrated in the upcoming 3.6 release. See https://live.gnome.org/ThreePointFive/Features/IBus Also, note bug 680312 which isn't yet fixed but which I believe is somewhat related to this report.
somewhat improved in 3.5.91. but not still perfect. 1. the shortcut key doesn't work on the search box. it works once going back to the application. for a workaround, changing the input source from the panel still works. 2. if ibus is turned on, I can input through ibus on the search box, but "Enter" key doesn't commit the preedit string into the search box. it fixes the _incomplete_ result and going to bring up application. this is incompatible behavior to others.
1. is bug 643111. 2. should be fixed in 3.5.92, see bug 658325. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 643111 ***
