Description Allan Day 2011-04-13 13:26:22 UTC
The name of the panel is currently 'Messaging and VoIP Accounts'. This is too long - it wraps to three lines in the system settings all settings view, pushing the height of the window.

A shorter title should be used. 'Messaging and VoIP'?

Problem is, this panel is really about accounts. 'Messaging and VoIP' would be more managing the preferences of the IM and VoIP features which is basically empathy's preferences menu atm.

Removing the 'Accounts' would be a bit miss leading.

'Messaging Accounts', then? CC'ing Jon McCann to get his view.
Comment 3 William Jon McCann 2011-04-13 14:51:09 UTC
Honestly, it shouldn't be in the system settings at all yet. We have plans to add an Accounts panel but different than this one and that will be pretty confusing.

But yes the name is too long and misleading. At the moment, to the user, this is merely the preferences and account settings for Empathy (an app). To the developer this is a service called Telepathy. The problem is that telepathy is irrelevant to the user since they only know the app.

If we start to support application preferences in the system settings we will need to redesign the shell to scale better. So, we don't really want that at the moment and prefer apps to present their own preferences.

We should hopefully have the actual accounts settings by 3.2. But we have much to design still.
