Description David 2011-04-08 17:57:00 UTC
Since it keeps coming up, I would propose adding a brief explanation of Report Options as the last paragraph of 5.4. I am not attached to this particular wording (and indeed, I think this section could use more work for sure), but putting SOMETHING in the docs about this would be useful.

Customizing reports in Gnucash so that (for example) they include the specific accounts you want and the date range in which you are interested, is handled in the following manner. First, the generic base report must be run, and THEN, once the report is loaded, the options for the report must be opened and modified to meet your needs.

That's how it is - but that's not how it should be. The generation of the default report is often time-consuming, as others have pointed out. I don't believe any other accounting software imposes this inconvenience. The *normal* case is customization.

Looking back at my submission, I see that it wasn't clear. I intended for that last paragraph to be added to 5.4 to explain Gnucash behavior. My original text indicated this, but it got lost in editing.

My proposal is not to change GC behavior (at least not in this bug report!); just document it for users.

David,

I'm adding this near the beginning of Help's §8.5 as that's the only place
that seems to make sense.

Best,

Yawar

Reassign version to 2.4.x so that individual 2.4 versions can be retired.
