Description George Lebl 2011-04-07 22:25:15 UTC
I click on a WPA2 protected network in the list of wireless networks and nothing happens. I do not get disconnected from the current networks, nothing. The thing simply doesn't try adding the network, simply nothing at all happens (no dialogs, no nothing, the indicator of the current network doesn't change).

The relevant bits from nm-tool:

    UCSD-PROTECTED: Infra, 00:1D:70:92:9E:61, Freq 2412 MHz, Rate 54 Mb/s, Strength 24 WPA WPA2 Enterprise
    *UCSD-GUEST: Infra, 00:24:97:F0:AA:21, Freq 2412 MHz, Rate 54 Mb/s, Strength 100
    UCSD-PROTECTED: Infra, 00:1D:70:92:C2:E1, Freq 2412 MHz, Rate 54 Mb/s, Strength 20 WPA WPA2 Enterprise
    UCSD-PROTECTED: Infra, 00:1D:70:92:BF:51, Freq 2412 MHz, Rate 54 Mb/s, Strength 29 WPA WPA2 Enterprise
    UCSD-PROTECTED: Infra, 00:24:97:F0:A9:93, Freq 2462 MHz, Rate 54 Mb/s, Strength 25 WPA WPA2 Enterprise
    UCSD-PROTECTED: Infra, 00:24:97:F0:AC:73, Freq 2412 MHz, Rate 54 Mb/s, Strength 22 WPA WPA2 Enterprise
    UCSD-PROTECTED: Infra, 00:24:97:F0:A8:C3, Freq 2437 MHz, Rate 54 Mb/s, Strength 67 WPA WPA2 Enterprise
    UCSD-PROTECTED: Infra, 00:24:97:F0:AA:23, Freq 2412 MHz, Rate 54 Mb/s, Strength 100 WPA WPA2 Enterprise

UCSD-GUEST is the open one that I am connected to.

Do you see anything suspicious in NetworkManager logs (/var/log/messages) or gnome-shell logs (~/.xsession-errors)?
It could be related to PolicyKit, to invisible networks, to configuration issues, or just a new bug.
Comment 2 George Lebl 2011-04-08 21:49:29 UTC
Nothing in messages, but .xsession-errors gets:

Window manager warning: Log level 16: Device activation failed: (32) Failed to determine AP security information

That's it ...

Do note that the same wifi network worked fine in fedora 14 (whatever those versions nm and nm-applet were).

Regardless, I would suppose there are two bugs

1) the fact that I can't connect to the network

2) the fact there is no feedback to the user when something bad happened
Comment 3 Dan Winship 2011-04-11 14:32:10 UTC
what version of NetworkManager? I can connect to a WPA2 network here. (Well, at least, I can get as far as it asking me for the password.)
Comment 4 George Lebl 2011-04-12 03:35:19 UTC
Whatever is current in the "fedora 15 to be" repository:

jirka@foo:~% rpm -q NetworkManager
NetworkManager-0.8.998-2.git20110406.fc15.i686
jirka@foo:~%

Any news on this? I have the same problem. I tested using the last fedora from rawhide.

Here is my log from xsession-errors:

The original report is about WPA[2]-Enterprise connections. Duped to that bug.
