The X-session errors

This problem has been driving me nuts for as long as I can remember. I would
have reported it sooner if I'd pinpointed its cause.

Every alternate time I login to Gnome, I see a cursor on a black screen for over half a minute before the panel is loaded. For the rest of the session, it's just as slow to start any applications.

This problem occurs regardless of whether I'm launching Gnome via 'startx' or from 'kdm'. I've attached the ".xsession-errors" file that's generated in the latter case. Let me know if you want to see anything else.

This problem is occurring on my 32-bit and 64-bit Arch Linux installations.
How can I fix it or where else should I be looking for an explanation?

I originally thought this was an Xfce-specific problem, so I posted the details to their bug tracker here: https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7463

Hi,

Coming from the original XFCE bug report: we don't have enough information to act upon this bug and we don't seem to have duplicates.

Could the GNOME triagers please identify whether there are duplicates of this bug here and whether the faulty component can be identified?

Thanks,

I'm pleased to report that it looks like this problem has gone away over time. These days, I can re-login to my DEs multiple times without experiencing lockups. Should it ever return, I will try to collect the information you've requested.
