GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 644133
Screensaver should not be disabled in presentation mode when window not on top
Last modified: 2011-03-20 10:53:39 UTC
Evince seems to disable the screensaver in presentation mode. This is good! However, I'm reading a book in presentation mode. I often stop reading the book, and go to another window (with Alt+Tab). I then forget that the screensaver is disabled, and sometimes leave my screen on all night. This is bad! Suggestion: only disable the screensaver while the presentation window is uppermost. Of course, this doesn't help if I stop reading the book, and simply leave the computer, but I don't see a sensible way around that.
Yes we should enable the screensaver again when the window loses the focus, but why don't you use the fullscreen mode instead?
The nice thing about presentation mode is that it is REALLY full-screen: the toolbar disappears, the thumbnails disappear (both of which are useful, so I don't want to hide them permanently, only when I am reading a book), and most importantly, the entire screen is black (I selected "Invert colors"), not just the background of the page.
Also, disabling the screensaver is not useful if the evince window is not on top.
Fixed in git master now, thanks for reporting.
