On mclasen's request I added the black circle glyph (U-25CF) to be used for this, but it doesn't seem to be working for me locally.

This works in gdm, but not in (for example) the keyring dialog, at least with abattis-cantarell-fonts-0.0.4-1.fc15.noarch

gnome-keyring seems to use the following in .ui:
       <property name="invisible_char">•</property>

And jimmac says this has been addressed now in master.  Thanks Bill.
