Neither version 2.40 or 2.29 will launch once installed.
Have installed, uninstalled, checked firewall permissions and user account permissions.
Using Vista (fully updated) on Dell XPS laptop with plenty of memory.  No error messages reported.
Winpatrol shows gnucash-bin.exe is active task running after using either shortcut or running program from start menu.

Have no clue what is not working.
Firefox is default browser.

I also can just run gnucash 2.4.0, 2.4.3, 2.4.4 only if I start gnucash as administrator. Otherwise Gnucash crases at startup. By the way I use vista.

Christian, perhaps it is possible to start gnucash also in normal mode, without beeing an administrator

Based on comment 3, I think indeed that Hans is experiencing bug 641539. I will reopen it and add Hans in the CC list.

@Claire: I did fix a bug in GnuCash 2.4.4 that caused GnuCash to hang in certain circumstances. Can you install that version and check if it still hangs ?
