GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 640916
Wishlist: Add the ability to lock / un-lock cd-rom / dvd-rom drives / other ejectable media
Last modified: 2012-11-17 02:30:24 UTC
Disk Utility lacks door lock/unlock button for CD/DVD drives I can lock my keyboard/mouse through the shutdown utility. But I can't lock my CD/DVD door from the disk utility. This is an oversight. Some people want this feature to protect the drive from their 2 year olds. I just want it because I move my laptop around all the time while it's on. The eject switch is right where one would normally grasp the laptop's edge and so the door constantly pops open. Please add a button/indicator in the Disk Utility GUI next to the eject button so I can lock/unlock my CD/DVD door. Thx. Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. I think your feature request makes sense but I don't think it's a good idea to add it to the Disks application. I would suggest to instead write a GNOME Shell extension to do this. See https://live.gnome.org/GnomeShell/Extensions
