It looks like an AWN issue but first the bug report is set to 1.9.1 but you state that you are using 1.6.1. Can you please follow these instructions to perform testing on the latest Banshee.

also can you please obtain a debug log.

This is a bug in Awn, not in Banshee.
A fix has been committed in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/awn-extras-applets/+bug/693829
