GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 637599
OCRfeeder crashes the system by using all RAM memory available
Last modified: 2011-12-10 16:24:52 UTC
I just can't use ocrfeeder. I tried importing a PDF file and a folder and on both cases, ocrfeeder fails by getting all the memory available. I have a 4gb system, which had aprox. 3,5 gig free before ocrfeed trying to import stuff, an none after it. The program, and the whole system gets, very, very slow. That turns the program unusable. I've tried ocrfeeder 0.6.6-3 on ubuntu maverick.
Hi Kemelzaidan, OCRFeeder uses an external tool to convert PDFs into images and that app may be heavy on the system when the PDF is large. Could you tell me the size and number of pages of your PDF? I'll try to tackle this in the future, thanks. Thank you.
Well, the same thing happened to me when I tried to import a whole folder. I believe I've tried with 2 PDFs one small and a large one. But I can make some further tests if you wish.

Same problem here with a 26 pages 300dpi greyscale document and version 0.7.6-1 on Debian, see my report at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=646605
Guys, I am thinking of tackling this issue soon but it will require some deep changes so please be patient. Thank you for reporting. It would be nice if you tested it once it's fixed to check if everything works as expected.
Hi, I've just released the 0.7.7 version and the memory issues should now be fixed or at least minimized. Please check if it works well for you now. In the release post I talk about the problem and the solution: http://www.joaquimrocha.com/2011/12/10/ocrfeeder-0-7-7-released/ Thanks for reporting this.
