Description Jean-François Fortin Tam 2010-12-09 00:11:44 UTC
Archives containing files with weird filename encoding will properly uncompress if you use the toolbar button to extract "all files". However, it will fail if you try to do it using drag and drop or other methods.

Comment 3 Martin Owens 2011-04-15 03:43:50 UTC
I have confirmed this bug with a file that contained a MS Word apostrophe in the filename. Bugsquad: please mark as New
Comment 4 Fabio Durán Verdugo 2011-04-15 13:11:19 UTC
can send one example please?, and what is the exact version?
Comment 5 Jean-François Fortin Tam 2011-04-15 13:54:34 UTC
There's a sample file in comment #1.

Not sure if this is a duplicate considering that it works with the toolbar button (but not other methods).
Comment 6 Martin Owens 2011-04-15 16:45:08 UTC
Version: 2.32.0
Error: caution: filename not matched: Mahain\?\?\?s Grave.doc

It looks like an escaping error.

Comment 9 Martin Owens 2011-04-15 19:20:30 UTC
Hey Fabio, If we can add this somehow to the test suite and it passes. Then I think we're good to close the bug report.

Although poor Ubuntu won't get file-roller 3.0 I believe.
Comment 10 Jean-François Fortin Tam 2011-11-06 15:17:18 UTC
Still not seeing this work properly in file-roller 3.2.

If you try to extract the stuff from comment #1 using drag and drop, some of the files get extracted but not all, and you get errors for those that were not extracted, such as this one:

caution: filename not matched: ecos/station_thyro\?de.doc
Comment 11 Paolo Bacchilega 2011-11-06 19:45:07 UTC
The problem is with the unzip utility that doesn't allow to extract a single file with an invalid enconding, at least I coulnt' find a way to extract it from the command line, if someone can do it please let me know how. On the other hand with 7zip installed the Drag&Drop extraction works correctly but the filename encoding is wrong.
Comment 12 Fabio Durán Verdugo 2011-11-30 05:44:36 UTC
then, any news for this report?

bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old bug reports and feature requests in GNOME Bugzilla which have not seen updates for a long time.

If you still use file-roller and if you still see this bug / want this feature in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/file-roller/-/issues/

Thank you for creating this report and we are sorry it could not be implemented (volunteer workforce and time is limited).
