Description Daniel Centore 2010-12-07 21:17:52 UTC
Hello,
I've installed gnome-phone-manager in Ubuntu 10.10. The bluetooth connected successfully (it seems? My laptop shows up on the phone and visa-versa). Whenever trying to send messages, however, nothing ever gets sent and received messages do not show up either.

The phone is here: http://pocketpccentral.net/verizon_xv6900.htm
Verizon xv6900 AKA HTC Vogue
Running Windows Mobile 6

Thanks ahead of time,
Daniel Centore

Edit:
Here is the output from a run without doing anything:
http://pastebin.com/RzuZ2Hmw

And after sending an SMS the following line is appended:
** (gnome-phone-manager:3255): WARNING **: EBookView still around

Thank you for reporting this bug and thank you for triaging it, however its severity is "Normal" (check the help link when entering a new bug).

Daniel, your output doesn't show an error so it isn't useful, and please don't put files on external sites since we have no control on their availability (even if they are set as "no expiry") and attachments can be easily added here.
I have added debugging instructions to http://live.gnome.org/PhoneManager please try the gnokii commands listed there.

Hello,
Thank you for the reply. I succesfully output the config file and put it in the ~/.gnokiirc directory as instructed. After running gnokii --sendsms ##########, i get the following error:

It doesn't look the output of the config you attached.
Try passing the config file name explicitely:
gnokii --config /pat/to/config --sendsms 2034462778
Comment 6 Daniel Centore 2010-12-15 21:29:04 UTC
Ok it is a gnokii issue. Ill post on their forums. Thank you for your help.
Comment 7 Daniele Forsi 2010-12-15 21:41:45 UTC
Closing as NOTGNOME then.

I'm also one of the developers of gnokii, if you have logs handy you may attach them here so that we keep everything in the same place.
Comment 8 Daniel Centore 2010-12-15 21:43:51 UTC
OK Thank you.

Here is the output from a gnokii run:
I am also posting on the gnokii forums linking to this one.

PDU mode is not supported by the phone. This mobile supports only TEXT mode
while gnokii supports only PDU mode.
SMS Send failed (Unknown error - well better than nothing!!)
Serial device: closing device
Comment 9 Daniele Forsi 2010-12-15 21:56:48 UTC
I'm sorry it can't be fixed because your phone has a modem which doesn't support SMS commands (GSM 07.07 and later):

> read : [AT+CSCS?<cr><cr><lf>ERROR<cr><lf>]
> read : [AT+CSCA?<cr><cr><lf>ERROR<cr><lf>]
> read : [AT+CMGF=0<cr><cr><lf>ERROR<cr><lf>]

This message from gnokii is misleading:
"PDU mode is not supported by the phone. This mobile supports only TEXT mode
while gnokii supports only PDU mode.", because gnokii didn't check if the phone supports TEXT mode.

You can try different setting instead rfcomm_channel = 5 but I doubt it will work.
Comment 10 Daniel Centore 2010-12-15 22:02:09 UTC
OK thanks. Do you know if the later versions of Windows Mobile support GSM >07.07? Also same question for Android based phones?

WM has treated me decently but I think it may be time to move on to open source.

Daniel
