This is a duplicate of bug #684516 in Launchpad (LP: #684516). I was trying to fix this bug for the ubuntu package gcalctool, but I was told to send a patch directly to GNOME.

There is a new official sign for the Indian Rupee, unicode <U+20B9>. This sign is still not present in the development version of gcalctool downloaded with git. I'll attach a patch that replaces the "Rs" string with the new sign.

Please see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcalctool/+bug/684516 for the original bug report in Launchpad.
