GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 633619
Track Editor allows one time change to Sort Track Artist and Sort Album Artist fields under Sorting tab
Last modified: 2020-03-17 08:48:09 UTC
Changes made to Sort Track Artist or Sort Album Artist fields under Sorting tab of Track Editor will be saved if being made for the first time. Any subsequent attempts to change data in these fields will not be saved. Additionally, changes made to a single track of an album will be propagated to all tracks of the album even if editing only a single track. Steps to Reproduce: 1) Highlight track, right click, select Edit Track Information to open Track Editor. 2) Select Sorting tab, make changes to Sort Track Artist field, click save. Platform: Ubuntu Linux 10.04 LTS
Sounds similar to bug #586988
I can confirm this with Banshee 2.0 (haven't tested with git master yet). I picked a random song in my library, set the sort artist to "5". All songs by this artist were set with a sort artist of "5" (which is not necessarily a bad thing), and I haven't been able to change the sort artist to something else (or delete it).
I am running 2.2.0 and have the same problem. I have some artists that have sort information that makes no sense... and I cannot change it.
Banshee is not under active development anymore and had its last code changes more than three years ago. Its codebase has been archived. Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is being shut down) if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again. See https://gitlab.gnome.org/Infrastructure/Infrastructure/issues/264 for more info.
