Description C Bispham 2010-10-30 12:19:01 UTC
In the new version of gthumb (2.12.0) there is no longer a list view mode in the browser window. Images can only be viewed as thumbnails or in an icon grid. This is a loss of functionality from the previous version and represents a significant regression.

Is this really a "significant" regression ?

What is the use of a list view mode in a image viewer program?
Wouldn't one use the default file manager (nautilus) for that case?

Paolo made some design changes for version 2.11.x on.
This one makes sens to me

Cheers,
Matthias

From my point of view, list view is the most useful way to browse images. This is aferall an image "viewer and browser," according to the description of gthumb on Gnome's website. Again, it's a *browser*. I can't think of any contemporary platform for browsing files that does not include a list view mode. So removing this fucntionality that was already there in the old view is certainly a regression and to my mind a significant one. It seems like some effort was made to make the program more streamlined and "user friendly," but the end result is that it looks simpler, but is not actually more useful. In other words, the appearance of user friendliness, in place of actual user friendliness.

Reopening as I think the requested information has been provided.
Comment 4 Michael Chudobiak 2015-12-18 17:45:45 UTC
Marking as obsolete, as the 2.x version are no longer supported.

Please feel free to reopen this bug report if it describes a problem that still occurs with a current version of gThumb (currently 3.4.1).
