Description Antoine Jacoutot 2010-10-04 08:27:43 UTC
Hi.

I'm hitting the bug that was supposed to be fixed by the following commit:

From 314ab51f6f4402e55f8d179b8a8e94785d69d5e4 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001

Subject: I noticed that gnome-about-me silently forgets all information I put

I'm running with glib2-2.26.0, gtk+-2.22.0 and gnome-control-center-2.32.0 under OpenBSD/i386. When I enter information in gnome-about-me, then close the capplet then reopen it, all information is gone and I'm left with virgin entries.

I can confirm that I too am being hit by this bug.
Running Archlinux x86_64 with the following packages:

glib2 - 2.26.0
gtk2 - 2.22.0
gnome-control-center - 2.32.0

I have the same behaviour as the OP.
What other info should I provide in order to help debug this?
Comment 2 Peter Weber 2010-11-07 20:11:13 UTC
It is a general bug - https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=106365

I can confirm this to with:

gnome-control-center 2.32.0-1
evolution 2.32.0-1
evolution-data-server 2.32.0-2

I posted also evolution because is is just Outlook for Gnome, very deep in the system and hated/loved by its users. I think evolution-data-server controls this dialog in the background?

Don't want to blame someone special - but this kind of bugs must be fixed during enduser-based-testing before a final release. I see the last years and specially after the last release of Gnome many users who a frustrated about bugs which could be find by every normal user - within one or two ours of testing.
The immediatley release of Ubuntu after Gnome is one of the major problems of Ubuntu, but this is on the other side the fault of ubuntu.
Comment 3 Antoine Jacoutot 2010-11-16 08:58:18 UTC
It seems this is fixed with the recent updates batch:

evolution-2.32.1
evolution-data-server-2.32.1
gnome-control-center-2.32.0
gnome-settings-daemon-2.32.1
Comment 4 Francisco Pina Martins 2010-11-18 09:50:37 UTC
It didn't fit it for me.

Installed versions:
evolution-2.32.1
evolution-data-server-2.32.1
gnome-control-center-2.32.0
gnome-settings-daemon-2.32.1

Running Arch Linux.

Is there some sort of config file for this? Or Gconf entry?
Comment 5 Bastien Nocera 2011-01-21 12:07:36 UTC
about-me is gone from GNOME 3.x, and the bug does not apply to the user accounts panel.
