GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 628818
GNOME Terminal documentation is misleading re: colors
Last modified: 2013-03-03 23:16:57 UTC
#: C/gnome-terminal.xml:989(para) msgid "" "The actual display of the foreground and background colors can vary " "depending on the color scheme that you choose. For example, if you choose " "<guilabel>White on black</guilabel> and the <guilabel>Linux console</" "guilabel> color scheme, the application displays the foreground and " "background colors as light gray on black. The <guilabel>Built-in schemes</" "guilabel> drop-down list is only enabled if the <guilabel>Use colours from " "system theme</guilabel> option is unselected." msgstr "" 1. If you choose "White on black" color scheme and the "Linux console" Palette color scheme, you *still get white on black*. The Palette scheme *doesn't* affect the background and foreground color of the terminal. You can choose any other Palette color scheme and you'll still get white on black. 2. The first sentence here says that it's the other way around, that the Palette scheme does in fact affect foreground and background colors, which it doesn't. 3. BTW. Why mention the "Linux Console" Palette scheme, when the Palette itself is explained next in its own section?
I think it would be ok to just remove all but the last sentence from this paragraph.
This has been rewritten in the new Mallard help, closing bug as obsolete.
