GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 627045
Minimizing does not hide tool palettes
Last modified: 2014-02-20 21:52:36 UTC
When minimizing GIMP, all floating tool palette windows are not hidden. This occurs on Windows 7, 64-bit using GIMP 64-bit.
It is well known that gdk/win32 has troubles in implementing the more obscure corners of window state management. There probably are already bugs open that covers the various aspects of the problems. There just is a clear lack of developer interest/enthusiasm/resources to do something about that. (And I include myself in that.) That you say "when minimizing GIMP" sounds like you haven't considered that one can have several image windows open at the same time. Do you mean when one minimizes all of them, or what? Anyway, please note that the *intended* behaviour is that exhibited on GNOME with the metacity window manager. That is what one should compare to. You can't just guess what the intended behaviour is.
I think this is a duplicate.
I don't have access to GNOME with the metacity window manager. But I cannot imagine that this is intended behaviour. I completely understand the lack of developer interst, though. I was refering to a single image window. If I have two windows open and minimizes one of them, the tool palettes obviously shouldn't disappear. If both are minimized, they should.

That dupe resolution is wrong, surely, as the indicated bug explicitly is for Linux (I.e X11) only.
Please try GIMP 2.7.4 and report back, we won't fix 2.6 bugs any longer.
Seems to be fixed in 2.7.4
