GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 624368
Root requirement is too strict
Last modified: 2011-01-25 21:27:11 UTC
I have administrative accounts that have full access to some block devices. GParted's initial root check is too restrictive and prevents me from using gparted from those accounts. (I can use fdisk instead from those same accounts, so certainly the restriction is completely wrong). Please change the dialog into a warning, and let the operating system handle permissions as usual.
I have to agree with the OP. Why should we be forced to use root? Non-root users can be granted permissions to modify block devices...
This bug report contains the same request as the following bug report: Bug #552637 - PolicyKit support Hence I am marking this bug report as a duplicate. I would appreciate if someone with PolicyKit knowledge could help to implement PolicyKit suport so that GParted can run as non-root. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 552637 ***
