GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 624052
shortkey for preferences
Last modified: 2010-07-12 14:16:37 UTC
there is no shortkey for preferences and should be. ctrl+p or whatever you people prefer. there is an inconsistency between empathy and gwibber so if empathy gets any shortkey we can get the same in gwibber too. (gwibber uses ctrl+p)
Ctrl+P is generally used for printing so I'd rather not using it. AFAIK, there is no consenus on this. For example Epiphany and gedit don't have a shortkey but. Evolution uses Maj+Ctrl+S. I'm not against adding one but I'd like to stay coherent with other GNOME apps. Could you please do some research and see if one key is used in most GNOME app?
I looked into many different gnome apps gcalctool = nokey nautilus = nokey baobab = nokey gnome-terminal = nokey gedit = nokey ekiga = nokey totem = nokey rhythmbox = nokey cheese = nokey gnome-system-monitor = nokey so it seems most gnome apps dont use any shortkey for preferences. but I think the case for an internet messenger is different. people interact with preferences more than they would in any other app. here are some third party messengers. amsn = ctrl+p emescene = ctrl+p pidgin = ctrl+p
(In reply to comment #2) > so it seems most gnome apps dont use any shortkey for preferences. but I think > the case for an internet messenger is different. people interact with > preferences more than they would in any other app. Really? I almost never change my preferences. I'd be tempted to WONTFIX for now as GNOME apps don't have such shortkey.
