GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 623594
Possible actions in a layer row of the layers dialog are not obvious
Last modified: 2018-05-24 12:48:10 UTC
In the current version, 11 different click combinations are available in a layer row of the layers dialog: 1 to 4: simple click in the visibility eye, link icon, layer thumbnail and layer mask thumbnail. 5 to 8: click, Alt-click, Shift-Alt-click, Ctrl-Alt-click, and Shift-Ctrl-Alt-click in the layer thumbnail. 9 and 10: Ctrl-click and Alt-click in the layer mask thumbnail. 11: double click in the layer name. Nothing informs users of the existence of all these combinations. With the recent addition of cases 5 to 8, the problem becomes really annoying. Possible solutions, which could be combined: - a tooltip popping out when the mouse pointer hovers above the various parts of the layer row; - additional entries in the Layers dialog menu (only cases 3, 4, and 9 to 11 are presently available, but here is no reminding of the equivalent click combination). - a new help combination, possibly Ctrl+F1, showing a menu of the available click combinations.
