Description Fabian Greffrath 2010-06-14 08:05:11 UTC
Hi,

some users seem to expect that their default keyring gets unlocked if they select auto login in GDM. Please read here for an actual request:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=580922

As Josselin points out in this bug report, "if you want that behavior with autologin, you need to change your default keyring’s password, and set it to an empty password, but be aware of the security implications."

I think this feature should be documented somewhere, e.g. in the dialog that asks users for the initial password when the keyring is created. A sentence like "Setting an empty password will even unlock the keyring on auto-login, but be aware of the security implications." might help here.

Cheers,
Fabian

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-keyring/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
