GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 620602
Next/prev shortcuts should focus mesage list
Last modified: 2010-07-14 07:56:11 UTC
Hello, in the past pressing CTRL+] to go the next unread message of a folder (i.e. after clicking on the folder in the folder list) moved the focus to the message list, i.e. it was possible to read the message and then press "DEL" to delete it. After upgrading from 2.28.x to 2.30.1.2 this changed, the focus stays on the folder list and the following "DEL" is ignored (which is better than deleting the folder, luckily, otherwise I might have deleted a folder out of habit of doing the CTRL+] -> DEL thing for some years now). For me personally but also in general I think this is a step back usability wise. Kind regards Wolfgang Karall
Probably just an oversight on my part. The menus, toolbar and shortcut keys were all reimplemented from scratch for 2.30.
Fixed on master and gnome-2-30 branches: http://git.gnome.org/browse/evolution/commit/?id=a15a2953237e02bd69005ea5c39e0d3d45e95cb9 http://git.gnome.org/browse/evolution/commit/?h=gnome-2-30&id=b7a9c695900163e0029cc72ad7000c28e112cbed
Hi, Sorry to reopen (comment after it is fixed) this bug, but since Fedora 13 updated Evolution to 2.30.2 with a recent updat,e changing focus to always go to the next message in the message list has introduced a problem in situations where the focus was on the message/preview pane and one presses Ctrl+Page_Up or Ctrl+Page_Down, or even delete. The problem is that focus is moved from the message pane to the next message in the message list. Why is this a problem? If I set the focus on the message pane, I can page up/down through the message body of my emails. If I delete the current email or if I want to keep the current one and move to the next message (Ctrl+Page_Up or Ctrl+Page_Down) because the focus shifts to the message list I have to refocus back to the message preview pane before I can page through it. I am now constantly having to take my hands off the keyboard to click on the message pane just to page through each email message. This is a regression from the behaviour in the 2.28.x branch and earlier. In previous branches the focus remained on the message pane in the situations I mention. Expected behaviour: If the focus is on the message preview pane, an action that moves to the next/previous message should leave the focus on the message pane. I discussed this on the evolution-list and it was suggested I reopen this bug, but if you would prefer a new one opening, let me know and I'll do that. Many thanks, Gavin
