In Openoffice.org Writer insert hiperlink dialog have some problems with document frame list control handle with Orca
Last modified: 2010-07-05 21:06:08 UTC
Dear Developers, When I activating insert hiperlink dialog in Openoffice.org Writer, give a destination, press three Tab key, happening following problems in Orca side when the focus jumps the Document frame control: 1. Orca nothing spokening if the focus landing with this control. Possible not have default value with this control in OO side? When I do where am I operation, I hear only list item text. 2. If I press one down arrow key, Orca right spokening actual list element, and where am I working right. 3. If I press up arrow again, where am I again spokening the list item text only. How can you try reproduce this issue? 1. Choose insert menu hiperlinks... menu item with OO Writer. 2. Write destination address for example live.gnome.org/Orca. 3. Press three Tab key. You not hear any speech output when the focus jumps the document frame combo box. If you do where am I command, you hear "list item" text. 4. Press one down arrow key. You right hear the actual choosed list item, and where am I works right. 5. Press Up arrow, you hear destination frame list output, and where am I spokening only list item text. I maked a debug.out file, i attaching next comment. I tested this problem with actual Orca git master version with containg lot of Openoffice.org related fixes. I using Ubuntu 10.04, Openoffice.org 3.2, and I using hungarian locale when testing this problem. If this is possible, need fixing this problem with Orca master and 2.30 version. If this is a bug with Openoffice.org and impossible fix this problem with Orca side, sorry the unneed bugreport. Attila Attila

Did some quick triage. 1. This bug is present in OOo 3.2; things work as expected in 3.3. 2. The reason we're speaking nothing in this particular case is because there are other bugs in OOo with lists and combo boxes which caused Orca to be extremely chatty. The Orca fix/work-around for all of those chatty issues is identifying this one particular object as a false positive. :-( Attila, because of item #2, making a change to fix this bug here might break things elsewhere and cause Orca to be too chatty again in some places. That means it's not low risk. As a result, any fix (hack) I come up with will not go into 2.30.2. I'm sorry. So any hack I do come up with would only be for (what will become) GNOME 3.0. And by then, distros will be shipping OOo 3.3 and not require the hack. :-) In light of all this, my leaning is to close this bug out as NOTGNOME with the recommendation that users switch to OOo 3.3. But I'm interested in what you think Attila.
Hy Joanie, Thank you the answer, I full understand I think your comment. Well, if this problem is not present with OO 3.3, and newest future releasing next half cicle distributions future containing OO 3.3, I think we not need do any work with this bug in this situation with related to 3.2, because any possible fix is risk the stability if I understand right your comment. I think Ubuntu releases some time the backports repository later bill be released newest Openoffice.org releases, but I am not full sure this, I not remember now what happen with prewious LTS release. Because the possible this bug related Orca fix with OO 3.2 is more risk, risk 2.30 version stability, I think not have another choice. The future 2.30.2 version containing now very lot of useful Openoffice.org related fixes, with easyest Openoffice.org usability, but not risk the stability, thank you very mutch your hard work. So, I full agree with your choice, you are better known me what producing a possible fix this bug with longer time, what positive or negative change resulted with 2.30 or master branch. :-):-) Feel free to close this bug if you see not have another choice. Attila
Thanks Attila. We can leave it open a while. Sometimes I have brilliant, "why didn't I think of that before?" insights. <smile>
(3.0 Planning Spam-o-rama. Sorry!)
As per my comment #2 and my lack of brilliant ideas (and time) I was hoping for in comment #4, I am going to close this one out as NOTGNOME. On a positive note, OOo 3.3 is looking very nice a11y-wize.
