GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 619152
Weather Report no longer collects forecast
Last modified: 2020-11-06 19:57:12 UTC
Weather Report no longer collects forcast data for Melbourne, Australia. It continues to work correctly for other locations within .au. It appears error may be due to BOM changing the way the Mel forecast is delivered, now as HTML and not plain text (see the differences between http://www.bom.gov.au/vic/forecasts/melbourne.shtml and http://reg.bom.gov.au/wa/forecasts/perth.shtml). Plain text file remains available at http://www.bom.gov.au/fwo/IDV10450.txt Additionally, can someone point me where Weather Report keeps this data so I can hack my version to point it at the correct data point?
What exactly does "Weather report" mean here, please? The applet? The integrated display in the clock?
Sorry, Weather Report panel applet ver 2.28.0.
this bug still reproduce?
Yes, this bug persists with Weather Report 2.30.0 as packaged with Ubuntu 10.04.
(In reply to comment #0) > Additionally, can someone point me where Weather Report keeps this data so I > can hack my version to point it at the correct data point? The URL is hard-coded into libgweather/weather-bom.c . I'll attach a patch that gets it to use the http://www.bom.gov.au/fwo/*.txt URL instead.

I have this issue as well for several locations in the U.S.. I have had this for over the last year and a half, distro-wide, in Mandriva, Arch Linux, Fedora, you name it. I can not get an updated forecast either in Fedora or Arch at this time - I am no longer using Mandriva. $ pacman -Q libgweather libgweather 2.30.3-1 I am unable to get a forecast for Clovis, NM, USA, where I now live; it is still stuck on the same forecast it had along in May, 2009. I do not know if this area's ICAO code changed; it is KCVS. I've been hoping that updates would fix it; they haven't. Thanks.
any news for this report?
Not from here... yet. The bug still remains in both latest Arch Linux and updated Fedora 14. Will try to call on Monday to find out ICAO codes (although I am wondering if that's really the issue) for this area - it's the holidays here today.
Even with update to Gnome 3 in Arch Linux, this bug still remains. I have found since, that the ICAO code for this area is still KCVS. Thanks.
Radar map updates, current conditions updates, but forecast is still stuck around May 2009. Thanks.
Oh, sorry, also, at this point: [dedanna@dedanna ~]$ rpm -qa | grep libgweather libgweather-2.30.3-1.fc14.i686 Will do Arch's later today.
For Arch Linux: :) pacman -Q libgweather libgweather 3.0.2-1 I'm also having issues getting weather to display at all with the clock in fallback mode. Thanks.

If you can still reproduce this issue in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-applets/-/issues/ Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
