Hi Gnome Team My name is Os from Lao

when i type or viewing website have ົ and ປ the char ົ will show as ຍ

but ົ with another char is showing correctly

Lao language is UTF-8 (lo)

Lao(lo) = English
ົ = q
ປ = x
ຍ = p
the problem is when i type ປົກ is ( xqd ) in english the ົ will show as ຍ

but when i try with another ສົກ = ( lqd ) is showing correctly

I have posted this bug on launchpad https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/294545

Workaround for Mai Kong

My bad on missing the case of Mai Kong (U+0EBB) when mapping Lao characters into 8-bit table for analyzing. A quick workaround could be mapping it to the same position as Thai MAITAIKHU (U+0E47). Then, the Thai logic just works well for Lao.

For testing purpose, I've built some debs for you to test here:

  http://linux.thai.net/~thep/debs/pango-lao/

(It's for Debian sid, but it should apply to Ubuntu Lucid as well.)

I've built additional i386 debs for you to test now.

Minimal sets of packages to install:

i386:
- libpango1.0-common_1.28.0-1lao1_all.deb
- libpango1.0-0_1.28.0-1lao1_i386.deb

amd64:
- libpango1.0-common_1.28.0-1lao1_all.deb
- libpango1.0-0_1.28.0-1lao1_amd64.deb

Thanks Sir let's test again
Comment 6 Theppitak Karoonboonyanan 2010-04-27 13:20:36 UTC
As discussed in personal chats, the debs can't be installed in Ubuntu, due to different dependency. So, I've also prepared Ubuntu source in the same place, but can't build it myself. Could someone with Ubuntu Lucid box do this for Outhai to test?
Comment 7 Kitt Tientanopajai 2010-04-27 14:47:14 UTC
Here are packages for lucid built from Theppitak's.

http://gear.kku.ac.th/~kitt/pub/pango/

Please test.

Comment 10 Outhai SAIOUDOM 2010-05-07 05:40:03 UTC
oh.. I'm sorry

status was changed to UNCONFIRMED
Comment 11 Outhai SAIOUDOM 2010-05-26 09:42:46 UTC
on more thing we need to fix is
display between ໜ and ໝ
when we type

shift + o(oh) = O < = > shift + ນ = ໜ (ຫນ) (U+0EDC) 'LAO HO NO' but when display is ຫມ = U+0EDD LAO HO MO

shift + , = < < = > shift + ມ = ໝ (ຫມ) U+0EDD LAO HO MO but when display is ຫນ = (U+0EDC) 'LAO HO NO'

In the keyboard layout and character encoding is correct
just only display is wrong
so please fix the display of

shift + o change to ນ = ໜ (ຫນ) (U+0EDC) 'LAO HO NO'
and
shift + , change to ມ = ໝ (ຫມ) U+0EDD LAO HO MO

thanks

I'm afraid this is not Pango problem. When entering the characters from gucharmap, they are correctly rendered. Please check your input method instead.

Mai Kong patch, git-formatted

Patch formatted for commit.

Pango maintainers, assuming that the problem in comment #11 is on input method, not pango, is it OK to commit and close this bug?

I don't see a problem as I am able type Lao using shift + O = ໜ (U+0EDC) and shift+< = ໝ (U+0EDD). This xkb keybmap works fine.

Dear Pango maintainers,

In order to resolve the problem with display Lao characters + vowel per stated previously, Theppithak has submitted a patch to include in the Pango.

Please commit it per an attachment (id=165323)

Thanks,
Anousak
