Description John Harris 2010-04-21 15:04:39 UTC
If you send a message (to yourself, say) with the word "From " at the beginning of a line, the composer (I think it is the composer) will add a ">" in front of it.

For example:

Send the following as the body of a message
-------------------------------------------------
Hello world<Enter>
From whatever
-------------------------------------------------

Results in:
-------------------------------------------------
Hello world
>From whatever
-------------------------------------------------

Where did the ">" character come from?

Note that the following are ok:
-------------------------------------------------
From
From: a
from a
-------------------------------------------------

If *must* be
<beginning of line>From <word>

Confirming.
Comment 2 Matthew Barnes 2010-04-22 17:39:15 UTC
Probably due to "From" line escaping for mbox storage.

This is fixed in the 2.32 stable release. Tested this on 2.28.x and yes it is very much evident. Thanks for your report.

Kindly reopen the bug, if you still see this issue on 2.32.x release.
Comment 4 André Klapper 2011-02-25 12:37:45 UTC
This is NOT fixed in 2.32.1. Also see bug 529215.
Comment 5 Murray Cumming 2011-02-25 12:40:35 UTC
This apparently is the reason that git format-patch patches arrive malformed.

cannot reproduce with evolution 2.32.2 on ubuntu.
Comment 8 Milan Crha 2015-09-17 05:40:11 UTC
A recent change was done within bug #686363, thus I'm marking this as a duplicate of it.
