Hello,

I am using a currently up-to-date Debian Sid installation. I installed
Empathy for the first time one week ago or so, and the first problem
I had with Empathy was that when tried to add accounts, or when I
tried to start empathy-accounts, nothing happened; i.e. no windows
showed up and nothing useful was produced in the debugging output.

Finally, I gave up and filed a bug with Empathy:

However, after a two days of trying to debug this problem with
Guillaume Desmottes, I finally found the problem: I had not installed
either the telepathy-haze or telepathy-gabber Debian packages, and
because of this it wasn't possible to add any accounts.

Unfortunately, this isn't ideal behaviour. If no connection managers
are installed, then Empathy should warn the user. Would it be possible
to add such a warning window to Empathy?

I filed this bug with Guillaume Desmottes's suggestion.

Actually the proper way to do this would probably be to use package kit (#518429) but yeah we should display at least an error message on the command line.
