GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 615870
Evolution: Clicking +/- next to folders does not expand/collapse them
Last modified: 2010-08-02 10:03:05 UTC
Clicking on the plus and minus signs next to folders does not expand/collapse them. I have to use the '+' and '-' keys on my keyboard in order to expand/collapse folders Distribution: Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid) Gnome Release: 2.30.0 2010-03-31 (Ubuntu) BugBuddy Version: 2.28.0
Please refer to document [1], plus/minus sign gives indication of unread mails in sub folders if folder tree is collapsed. [1] New Mail Notification section at http://library.gnome.org/users/evolution/stable/usage-mail-getnsend-read.html.en
How does this resolve my issue? I'm not talking about the message count to the right (with the possibility of having a plus sign if there are new messages). I'm referring to the plus/minus (was an arrow in ubuntu 9.10, now a plus/minus square in ubuntu 10.04) to the left of the folder name which is supposed to control the folder collapsing/uncollapsing. Click on that has no functionality at all.
Could you please provide a screen shot of your problem ?
Created attachment 159173 [details] Screen shot of the folders in Evolution for mail This show's the +/- I'm talking about in Ubuntu 10.04's newest evolution release rather than the older sideways and downwards arrow. Clicking on this plus/minus doesn't do anything. I have to highlight the folder by clicking on it and use the "+" and "-" keys on my keyboard to expand and collapse the folders.
Hi. I have had the same problem for long time, and I have just now realized that it happens to me only if I have Google Desktop running (the icon is on the notification area). If I quit Google Desktop, I am able again to expand and collapse my local mail folders. May be usefull. It is Evolution 2.28.3, Google Desktop 1.2.0.0088 from google repository and Gnome 2.30.0 in Ubuntu 10.04 and Fedora 12.
Could you please investigate if you are facing same issue as bug 581050
(In reply to comment #6) > Could you please investigate if you are facing same issue as bug 581050 No it's not a duplicate because it happens from the very start of the loading up evolution. As with one of the comments in the other bug though, I'm surprised that it has not been more talked about since it is on two different systems of mine which are very far apart in setup. System 1 (the one I posted this about): Custom Built Desktop circa 2010 Ubuntu 10.04 x64 GNOME evolution 2.28.3 Intel i7 930 6GB Memory 500GB RAID 1 System 2 (the one I've just been living with): Old laptop circa 2003 Ubuntu 9.10 x32 GNOME evolution 2.28.1 Intel Centrino M 750 2GB Memory 100 GB So I thought it might be a difference of x32 v x64; however, I also have a newer Ubuntu 9.10 laptop running which works perfectly. All three machines are pretty much identical in software setup on them. (In reply to comment #5) > [...] > notification area). If I quit Google Desktop, I am able again to expand and > collapse my local mail folders. > > May be usefull. > [...] None of my machines have Google Desktop running on them. -- Is there a better way for me to possibly debug this? I do have a background in programming and would be happy to help.
I have been doing some tests and here are the results. I have problems expanding and collapsing my folders only when Google Desktop is running and has been launched before Evolution. If I launch Google Desktop and then Evolution, I am not able to expand neither collapse mail folders. But if I launch Evolution and then Google Desktop, I have no problems. Google Desktop is installed under /opt and uses some own libraries located at /opt/google/desktop/lib/ . Some of these libraries are libgcc_s.so.1, libstdc++.so.6, libsqlite.so and more. May be a problem with duplicate libraries?
This is apparently a gtk+ bug *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 581050 ***
