GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 614941
Improve keyboard usability
Last modified: 2010-05-06 04:01:23 UTC
It would be nice to have a possibility to apply changes in dalogs by hitting Enter (e.g., in text import)
"Enter" activates the default button in dialogs. The text import dialog does not have a default button it seems. Are there any other dialogs with that problem?
Hmm, you would use "enter" to activate a radio or check button in the text import dialog. Alt-F has the same effect as clicking on the 'forward' button. So I am not sure whether this can be improved. (If enter would always activate the forward button, then how would you activate radio and checkbuttons?)
>If enter would always activate the forward button, then how would you activate radio and checkbuttons? In OS from Redmond space bar is used for this purpose
This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report. Note that I have made the forward or finish button (depending on page visible) the default button. This does not mean that typing "enter" will always activate it. This depends on whether the widget with keyboard focus wants the enter stroke or not. Note that checkboxes do not require "enter" they can be set with a spacebar. Feel free to file further bug reports regarding keyboard navigation inside the config. text importer dialog but note that we will not change form the standard gtk way of activating controls.
