GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 614107
Version vs. version
Last modified: 2011-04-04 12:21:10 UTC
It is not clear why there is capitalized V in the word "Version" below: #: ../server/smclient/eggdesktopfile.c:188 #, c-format msgid "Unrecognized desktop file Version '%s'" msgstr "" To have the message properly translated we need to know the reason for capitalized Version. Please add translation comment to the message above. Thanks.
Also, it would be great to know what will by substituted by %s. Is it filename? Is it the version number? Something else? Thanks.
This is actually a libegg bug, so reassigning. I would guess that Version is capitalized as it is a field in a desktop file (which should not be translated): http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/latest/ar01s05.html The substitution would be a version string, and currently the only valid string is '1.0'. An invalid version would probably be similar. I can add a translation comment if you like. Do you have a standard wording for a string to remain untranslated? Would something like: "Version should not be translated. %s would probably be a version number." be OK?
