GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 612885
Make a release
Last modified: 2011-08-05 15:47:32 UTC
it seems, that the development on Git is still going, but there hasn't been a release for 1 year (last one is 2.24 from 2009-02-19). are there any plans to make it at least for GNOME 3.0? many users would surly welcome that. thank you!
This will require, among other things, fixing bug 590996.
GHex is unmaintained. Development is not really "ongoing", it's just that Javier, Rafał and me have hacked a bit on GHex in the last weeks. We definitely do not plan to take over maintainership but there will be a release sooner or later, yeah.
Recently, after a bunch of patches going in, it might make sense to branch off first, e.g. for 69b2279032a49b589a432d0550f77f3e3b50fdfa when the gtk dependency was bumped.
And gtk dependency was again bumped in 0770099fb8a87a723aa44ce443247d5a36272147. Probably a gnome-2-32 branch or something might make sense.
I am not sure there is enough interest in another gtk2 release. In any case, it's easy to branch later if it turns out we want to make one. My goal is to get GHex ported to gtk3 as swiftly as possible. Once all the gtk3 related changes are in, I'd like to do a new unstable release, and aim for a stable gtk3-based release along with GNOME 3.2.
Kalev: Makes sense. Thanks for explaining!
