Under preferences -> browser there is a list of fields that can be displayed under each thumbnail.

None of the available options will display the IPTC Caption-Abstract that was added as a caption in prior versions of gthumb

this was removed on purpose because usually a comment doesn't fit the small space available in the thumbnail list.

Paolo,

Could a tooltip be added to the thumbnails, with a configurable set of metadata to display? That would handle long comments nicely.

The current development version allows to view the comment in the file list again.  This feature will be available in the next major release (version 2.14).
