Description ΙΟΑΝΝΗΣ ΜΠΟΥΡΔΑΚΗΣ 2010-02-06 22:58:06 UTC
The program refuses to display greek subtitles
Comment 1 Pedro Castro 2010-02-06 23:08:41 UTC
Can you please clarify the issue you're having?
Comment 2 ΙΟΑΝΝΗΣ ΜΠΟΥΡΔΑΚΗΣ 2010-02-08 22:48:55 UTC
When you load a Greek Subtitles codification which is windows-1253 then shown under txt some unknown likely unreadable Arabic fonts and not Greek as it should.

Luckily found a solution
before upload uppity coding in UTF-8 whenever the show Greek.
Comment 3 Pedro Castro 2010-02-08 23:48:01 UTC
The problem you're having seems to be due to incorrect encoding detection. If you specify that encoding in the file open dialog it should open correctly.

The fact is that it's impossible to have 100% perfect encoding auto-detection. Still, the next version of Gnome Subtitles will allow to specify the fallback encoding in the preferences, and that way it will be used when no encoding is detected.

To confirm, can you please paste the messages that are written to the console after opening a file?
Comment 4 ΙΟΑΝΝΗΣ ΜΠΟΥΡΔΑΚΗΣ 2010-02-10 00:11:09 UTC
not displaying any message.
but if you open the subtitle file with ANY text editor (gedit or open oficce) the GREEK normally occurs while the gnomesubtitle not appear GREEK.
UTF 8 encoding is okay
In any case Thank you very much.
This application is very useful and effective
Sincerely
ioannis

Ioannis,

Thanks for the info, and sorry to insist, but this is very important. Could you please open the Gnome Terminal (in Accessories) and run gnome subtitles from there (simply run "gnome-subtitles")? It should output the list of detected encodings, which would be useful to know the real cause of this problem.

Thanks.

pedro

I did that

Yes indeed the console seems to be some things do not
correctly recognition from gmome subtitle of the corresponding coding.
In particular to coding greek windows 1253.
Thanks.

Ok, marking as duplicate then as this has been fixed in the latest Gnome Subtitles version (that is, the latest version allows to set a Fallback encoding which in your case should be Windows 1253).
